Through the end of September 2022, participants in Minnesota’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) are eligible to receive an additional $24 to $47 per family member, per month, to put toward the purchase of fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables. These extra benefits will make it easier for families to try new recipes, stock up on their freezable favorites, and make healthier meals and snacks by adding just one or more simple ingredients. For example, you can:
- Add sliced bananas or strawberries to cereal
- Mix berries into oatmeal
- Make a salad with lettuce and fresh peppers, tomatoes, broccoli and carrots
- Snack on watermelon or cantaloupe chunks
- Add veggies to casseroles, rice dishes and pasta
To learn more and to access these additional benefits during the summer of 2022, WIC participants in Ramsey County can call 651-266-1300, visit the county’s dedicated WIC webpage, or scan the QR Code on the flyer that accompanies this blog. Families currently not receiving WIC can use these tools to check their eligibility and discover a multitude of WIC support services including resource and activity guides, local grocery stores and participating farmer markets, information on food recalls, neighborhood WIC clinics and other healthcare professionals, WIC administrators and coordinators, and the My Minnesota WIC App.
Families residing outside of Ramsey County can access this same information on their own county’s WIC site or the Minnesota Department of Health’s (MDH) WIC webpage. The State of Minnesota’s WIC office can also be reached by calling 651-201-4444 or 1-800-657-3942.
WIC is a supplemental food, nutrition and breastfeeding program that helps eligible pregnant women, new mothers, babies and young children eat well, learn about nutrition and stay healthy.
