Applications to Open for Section 8 Housing Voucher Program

The Metropolitan Council Housing and Redevelopment Authority (Metro HRA) has announced that it will soon begin accepting online applications for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. The online system will open at 9:00 AM CST, Wednesday, June 22, and applications will be accepted up until 12:00 PM CST, Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

Of the households selected through this process, 95% must “live, work, or attend school full-time” within the seven-county metropolitan area, which consists of Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott and Washington counties. Larger HUD Study

Households that are selected for the Section 8 Housing  Choice Voucher Program Waitlist, will also become eligible to take part in the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s new Mobility Demonstration Program: Community Choice Demonstration. The Minneapolis – St. Paul metro area is one of nine sites chosen for participation in this nationwide initiative. The purpose of this study is to build on the latest available research that demonstrates “growing up in neighborhoods with lower levels of poverty improves children’s academic achievement and long-term chances of successes and reduces intergenerational poverty.” Eligible households will be contacted by the Metro HRA to gage their interested in participating. Enrollment will begin in June 2022 and the study will conclude no later than April of 2027.
