There Are Still Ways to Celebrate Women's History Month

Although there are now just ten days left in March, there’s still time to participate in several Women’s History Month events. For example, this Saturday, March 26, Story Arts of Minnesota, the Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS), and Mill City Museum are partnering to present “Hear Her Stories: A Celebration of Women’s History Month.” This event, which will take place at the Mill City Museum (704 S. 2nd St., Minneapolis) from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., will feature “true stories—funny, poignant, and inspiring—from contemporary women inspired by history and women of the past.” For more information and how to attend, please call 612-341-7582 or visit the MNHS’s event page.

Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) is currently offering several documentaries that can be viewed online highlighting the extraordinary challenges, contributions, and triumphs of women both in Minnesota and across the nation. Likewise, you can access TPT short form series’ such as MinneHistory and American Masters, which collectively showcase icons than include Nellie Griswold Francis, Marie Bottineau Baldwin, Julia B. Nelson, Josephine Baker, and Lorraine Hansberry among many others. And, as women’s history should always be examined, discussed, and honored year-round, womenshistorymonth.gov maintains a treasure trove of resources suited for educators, students, and individual study. Materials on this site include historical exhibits, artistic collections, photo essays, and audio-visual tools from a variety of sources like the National Archives, Library of Congress, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, and the Smithsonian.
