The Minnesota Deadline to File Your 2019 Property Tax Return is August 15

Minnesota is a state where both qualifying homeowners and renters can file a property tax return. However, approximately one in three eligible households in our state do not file a property tax return (Form M1PR), potentially leaving hundreds of dollars on the table each year.

In Minnesota, the average property tax refund for renter households is around $650, while the average refund for homeowners, which is known as the Homestead Credit Refund is roughly $900. And, although the Minnesota Department of Revenue is accepting property tax returns for both 2019 and 2020, this coming Sunday, August 15, 2021, is the final deadline to file for 2019.

For renters, eligible households include those with an annual income of $62,960 or less in 2019. For homeowners, the eligibility guidelines include a household income of $116,180 or less. For more information and to file your 2019 Form M1PR and claim your property tax refund, visit the Minnesota Department of Revenue online at https://www.revenue.state.mn.us/property-tax-refund.
