Nearly every day last week, Minnesota reported a record number of new COVID-19 cases, including an all time high of nearly 6,000 new diagnoses on Sunday. The virus is surging and as Minnesota Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press, “These are sobering numbers to be sure. The weekly change in cases has gone up by just under 16 percent. And this rate of growth in our cases is double the rate of growth in our testing.”
State officials continue to ask Minnesotans to wear their protective masks in public, practice social distancing (six feet), and avoid large gatherings (whether indoors or outdoors). Yesterday, Governor Walz announced that the state will soon add 12 new COVID-19 testing locations and the possibility that additional restrictions on public gatherings are likely forthcoming.
