Early Voting Getting Underway Reminds Us that Local Elections Matter

The general election is now 20 days away (November 3, 2020). Community Action Partnership of Ramsey & Washington Counties maintains a dedicated webpage (Take Action: Vote 2020) that connects voters to resources and critical information including: how and where to register; how to vote in-person on election day; all the ways that Minnesotans can vote early (including in-person, by mail, agent delivery, and from overseas); and how to request, complete, submit, and track your absentee ballot.

The site also provides voter education materials and emphasizes that LOCAL ELECTIONS MATTER. Here’s how:

  • Local government manages a lot of different things—and their decisions directly affect your life. Think schools, policing, affordable housing, public transit…
  • State and local governments lead the way when the federal government isn’t. Many critical policies—minimum wage, women’s right to vote, environmental protections, marriage equality—all began at local levels.
  • Your vote will make a difference. Typically, 1 in 5 voters participate in off-year local elections, which means YOUR vote has a big impact.

For additional information and answers to your questions, voters can also access the Elections and Voting website at the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State, by clicking here: sos.state.mn.us.
