The July 15, 2020, tax filing deadline is now exactly 30 days away. And, while most VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) clinics remained closed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, free tax filing is still available to households earning $69,000 or less during the 2019 tax year via Free File on your smart phone, tablet, or computer.
By utilizing Free File from the safety and comfort of your own home, and by selecting the direct deposit option, taxpayers are able to access all available tax credits and deductions while also receiving their maximum federal refund in three weeks or less.
If you still prefer to use the services of a VITA clinic or a TCE (Tax Counseling for the Elderly) program, please visit irs.treasury.gov to see if there are any options available in your neighborhood between now and July 15, 2020.
For any additional tax questions you may have or to check the status of your refund, you can always visit the Internal Revenue Service online at irs.gov. For questions related to state income tax, please call the Minnesota Department of Revenue at 651-296-3781 or 800-652-9094. You can also submit questions to the Department of Revenue by completing this form at revenue.state.mn.us.
