Affordable Housing

Addressing the Gap in Affordable Rental Housing

For decades, the lack of affordable housing has been one of the most pressing issues confronting low-income people in the Twin Cities. In recent years, Community Action has been expanding its housing program to meet this urgent community need.

Community Action has responded to the affordable housing crisis by purchasing and rehabilitating smaller multi-family properties (typically duplexes and triplexes) and offering them at affordable rental rates to low-income families.  Our properties are located in established neighborhoods close to community amenities such as schools, parks, and shopping, and have easy access to public transportation.

There are currently NO VACANCIES in our rental units.

If you need a referral to other organizations who might help you find affordable housing please call 651-603-5880.

If you are currently experiencing homelessness please contact 211.

Making and Keeping Housing Affordable

National and regional studies demonstrate that the lack of affordable housing is the primary factor linked to homelessness. This problem is compounded in urban areas, like Ramsey county, where there is little land available for large-scale affordable rental development.

To address this urgent need in Ramsey and Washington counties, Community Action has launched a community development project aimed at creating affordable residential properties for those most in need. We've done this by focusing on purchasing and rehabilitating older housing stock that we can renovate into small, multi-family rental units. Though, this program is relatively new, we hope that our non-profit ownership model, which will ensure that housing units remain affordable, will continue to grow to provide relief to this urgent community need.
