Community Action is happy to announce the recipient of our 2024 December Staff Spotlight, Family Advocate, Day Wah!
Her first nominator said, "Day Wah, is an exceptional coworker who provides invaluable support to families we serve in Head Start in her coastal caseload and beyond. Her fluency in the Karen language enables her to assist those in need effectively. She consistently prioritizes others' needs, demonstrating remarkable empathy and dedication by going above and beyond to help families wherever required.“
Her second nominator said, "Day Wah demonstrates a strong passion for CAPRW’s mission of uplifting and empowering families. She meets with families to establish goals for families to meet self sufficiency and leverages the support of coworkers and community partners to best assist families. She aids families in applying for public assistance, obtaining citizenship, finding housing, and learning parenting skills. She is a big contributor to CAPRW Imagine Project, Pathway to Driver’s License, and helped 2 individuals to successfully obtain their driver’s license. She leads by example with positivity and warmth and is greatly respected by coworkers and families."
We are so grateful to have staff members such as Day that exemplify our mission, vision, and values! Recently we caught up with Day to learn more about her and how she views her role at Community Action.
What is your favorite part about working at CAPRW?
"I enjoy supporting families and building connections with different ethnic groups and backgrounds."
Do you have a favorite memory about working with families?
"Yes, one of my favorite memories is helping a dad improve his credit, and after two years, he got his credit card approved. I remember the dad saying to me, "I am so glad my kid is in Head Start because I wouldn’t know who could help me with this otherwise."
How did you discover your passion for working with children?
"When I was young, it was difficult for me to attend school. So, it’s a pleasure for me to now have the opportunity to work with children and help them with their education at an early age"
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time outside of work?
"I enjoy walking."
