There is still time to support Ramsey County’s Mothers First Diaper Bank Drive, which is accepting donations through Saturday, August 27, 2022. Please bring your donation of diapers and/or pull-ups to Mothers First at 1919 University Avenue West, Suite 112 (St. Paul) by the August 27 deadline. Sizes needed include: Preemie (P) and Newborn (N) diapers through size 5; and, pull-ups from size 3T through size 6T.
Drives such as this are critical to mother’s and their babies as diapers can cost as much as $70 – $80 per month, per child. Currently, one in three families struggle to afford diapers, and initiatives such as the Mothers First Diaper Bank help ease this burden through the kindness of our larger community. Moreover, this generosity makes a significant impact on the overall health and wellness of young families. For example, as Ramsey County Public Health explains:
- Babies who remain too long in a soiled diaper are exposed to potential health risks
- Diaper needs are a hidden consequence of poverty and lack of resources
- Most childcare centers, even free and subsidized facilities, require parents to provide a day's supply of disposable diapers
- Many parents cannot go to work or school if they cannot leave their babies at childcare
