Food Insecurity Still on the Rise in Minnesota

A full seven months since Governor Tim Walz first declared a peacetime emergency in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, food insecurity continues to increase and significantly impact tens of thousands of households throughout Minnesota. Yet, there are resources to help those in need.

The State of Minnesota’s COVID-19 Response effort maintains a dedicated webpage highlighting emergency food resources, food shelves, free meals for children, nutrition resources for families, and information on programs such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), WIC (Women, Infants, and Children), and Senior LinkAge for older adults. The Minnesota COVID-19 Response page also connects individuals and families to resources such as Hunger Solutions and the Minnesota Food HelpLine, while also providing links to food safety information during COVID-19 (Minnesota Department of Agriculture), and a guide to disinfectants approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency for use against the coronavirus.
