Working Together: The Archives

Food Distribution Moves to The Journey School Next Week

As we noted in last Thursday’s edition of “Working Together,” there have been some recent changes to our Head Start/Early Head Start Food Distribution Events. The weekly events held at both McDonough HS (1544 Timberlake Road) and Battle Creek HS (2181 Suburban Avenue) will continue to run through the next three Tuesdays (June 16, 23, 30 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm), while the University HS distribution will take place tomorrow June 16 at The Journey School (775 Lexington Parkway North).

Then, starting next Wednesday, June 24, we will partner with The Journey School as part of their USDA Summer Food Service Program. Food distribution at The Journey School, will be offered each Wednesday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm through August 26, 2020, and will provide a total of 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches for the week. Head Start families from our University, Skyline, Ruth Benner, Midway, and West Side centers will be directed to The Journey School Site (which also houses our Midway HS Center). Head Start/Early Head Start families that were utilizing the McDonough and Battle Creek Head Start Centers will soon be provided information on locations where they can access free meals through the end of the summer.

Last week, our Food Distribution events yielded a total of 3,180 meals for Head Start families. And, the totals from the month of May are in as well, which saw Community Action provide 13,089 meals (breakfasts, lunches, and snacks) to Head Start children and another 1,728 meals to Early Head Start children.

If you are a Head Start or Early Head Start family and would like to participate in this vital community initiative, please contact your child’s teacher, Family Advocate, Home Visitor or Center Education Coordinator to register. You can also text Ms. Molly at 651-285-1929. Please share your child(ren)’s name, birthdate and the center they attend.
