Hunger Day on the Hill Goes Virtual This Year

Every year, Hunger Solutions MN hosts Hunger Day on the Hill, which brings together “food shelf workers and volunteers, anti-poverty and food justice advocates, area students” and others in our communities dedicated to ending hunger in Minnesota. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Hunger Day on the Hill is going virtual in 2021.

Hunger Solutions MN is asking all those interested in participating to register online for this year’s event, which will take place over the course of two days, March 1 and March 2. On Monday, March 1, Hunger Solutions will provide virtual advocate training on key issues from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. Hunger Solutions will also schedule Zoom meetings for participants to address state legislators on both March 1 and 2 so that residents can demand that an end to hunger be put at the “top of the Minnesota legislature’s to-do-list in 2021.”

The legislative agenda that Hunger Solutions and its partner organizations have put together in 2021, includes the following policy proposals:

  • Expand Access to SNAP for Low-Income Minnesotans
  • Invest in Healthy Hunger-Free Schools
  • End School Lunch Shaming
  • Improve College Student Access to Basic Needs Support
  • Build a new food shelf in St. Paul
