Census 2020 Shortened, Deadline Moved to September 30

In Monday’s “Working Together” blog we reported that census takers will soon begin to knock on the doors of households that have yet to submit their completed forms for the 2020 Census. Monday’s blog also noted that households are not required to open their door to census employees and can still submit their completed questionnaire to the US Census Bureau up until October 31, 2020, by telephone (800-330-2020), online (2020census.gov), or by mail (all US households were mailed census forms in March 2020).

Since then, however, the US Census Bureau has moved the deadline up one month to September 30, 2020. And, while census takers will continue to knock on doors, the Katrina Pross writes in the St. Paul Pioneer Press that the Census Bureau will begin sending emails to some households and next month “will also send out another mailing to homes in low-responding areas with a paper questionnaire,” while also attempting “to contact some residents by phone.” For more details and what households that have yet to complete the 2020 Census can expect, please refer to today’s Pioneer Press story, “Minnesota officials adjust as Census moves count deadline up a month.”
